Gondola prices in Venice (2026): what you'll actually pay

Updated October 10, 2026

A gondola ride in Venice costs about €90 per boat for roughly 30 minutes by day, for up to 5 passengers. Evening rides cost more. Because the rate is per boat, five people sharing pay about €18 each.

The official rates

Gondola fares are regulated by the City of Venice and apply at every official stand (stazio). By day, the standard ride is about €90 for around 30 minutes. After 19:00 the evening rate applies, and sources currently quote between €110 and €130, so ask at the stand.

The fare covers the boat, not each passenger. One person or five, the gondolier charges the same.

What it costs per person

Here is the €90 day rate split between passengers:

  • 2 people: €45 each
  • 3 people: €30 each
  • 4 people: €22.50 each
  • 5 people: €18 each

How not to overpay

Agree on the total price and the route with the gondolier before you step on board. Ask how long the ride lasts. Extras such as a singer or a longer route are priced on top.

Booking platforms often charge more than the stand for a private gondola, in exchange for a guaranteed time. Walking up to an official stand outside peak hours usually works fine.

Cheaper alternatives

Shared gondola tickets sold online group strangers on one boat for roughly €30–40 per person. Cheaper still, the traghetto crosses the Grand Canal by gondola for about €2.

Rather book ahead?

Shared gondola tickets sell by the seat online, usually around €30–40 per person.

Questions

Can I negotiate the gondola price?

Not the standard fare: it is set by the city. You can agree on the route and duration before boarding.

Is a gondola ride worth it?

At €90 alone it's a splurge. Shared by four or five people, it's a 30-minute ride for about the price of lunch.
